Embarking on a captivating journey through London's history, the Museum of London issues a public appeal for iconic signs from various venues, past and present, for its upcoming exhibition, "Hanging Out." Set to open in 2026 at the Smithfield General Market building, the exhibition aims to narrate Londoners' stories through a collection of signs representing diverse communities, including pubs, community centers, cinemas, barber shops, and other businesses. As part of the Our Time exhibit, dedicated to exploring London within living memory, "Hanging Out" invites contributions of signs, each a minimum of 50cmx50cm, from any business or enterprise. Beatrice Behlen, Senior Curator of Fashion & Decorative Arts, expressed excitement about celebrating London's countless communities and encourages people to share their suggestions for signs that belong in the museum. Individuals interested in contributing or seeking further information can email the Museum of London through its website.
